Kitchen Checklist


Some time ago I joined an email newsletter from and I find it to be pretty useful. There are inspiring quotes and recipes, and tips for keeping yourself motivated. This morning I got an email alert on how to make your kitchen healthy and in turn motivating for smart healthy food choices. Below is what the article entails…

Beyond the fridge and the pantry, a healthy kitchen involves a number of other items and a lot of smart organization. See how many of these you have right now, and then see how you can slowly add more over time:

  • Pictures of your goals on the fridge
  • Healthy cookbooks
  • Very visible grocery list
  • Coupon envelope or storage system
  • NO pizza coupons
  • Easy-to-read and categorized recipe box or book
  • Full set of measuring cups and spoons
  • NO television in the kitchen or eating area (distractions can cause overeating)
  • Usable kitchen table–free of clutter, bills, book bags, and projects
  • Spice rack and spices
  • Water filter
  • Snack bowl on the counter, for all of those fresh fruits and healthy snacks you’ll have

As I look this over, I have some of these tools. I will have to try putting my goals on the fridge, I like that one. Healthy cookbooks- I will be working on filling that void as one of the details on my health plan is to cook. I do have a habit of eating while watching television when I am not rushing, I have to work on that. I also need to find myself a brita water filter. My kitchen is a work in progress. 🙂
